Welcome to the 2016 Leigh Woods Website. We hope you will find it interesting, informative and current. It has been developed for the residents in Leigh Woods but also other people who want to understand a little more about the history of the area and what’s happening today. Each month we will publish a short summary of topical points but we also encourage you to look elsewhere in the web site for more further information (which we will be adding throughout the month). Our annual newsletter has now been circulated to all residents of Leigh Woods and if you would like another copy you can download one via this link: LWS Newsletter 2015; LWS Newsletter 2014 or e-mail angela@leighwoods.org.

April Update

New Residents

Recently there has been a larger than usual influx of new residents to Leigh Woods and we would like to wish them all a warm welcome. Our Society arranges parties twice a year, occasional talks, visits to Brackenhill Gardens and keeps in touch with the Management of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, National Trust and Ashton Court so that our community is aware of their activities. Our Parish and District Councillors also work with us on local issues. If you would like to join, the subscription is 5 for a joint or 3 for a single household. Please contact Ian McKay (0117 973 4958) ian@leighwoods.org for details.

The AGM and Open Forum

Charles Cave, our district Councillor, David Anderson, the Bridgemaster and Lisa Topham of the National Trust all spoke and answered questions about current issues. These included plans for new toll booths for the bridge, parking and numbers of visitors now visiting the NT Leigh Woods to cycle, walk and attend events. Mr Newman gave a presentation and asked people to sign the petition regarding drainage on Rownham Hill, which has led to traffic accidents through aquaplaning. A full report on the meeting is available on our web site www.leighwoods.org. Thanks to the Churchwardens for making the Church warm and welcoming.

The Toll Booths

There have been three Key Stakeholder Workshops to date when consultation with Parish, District, N Somerset and Bristol Councillors has taken place. Representatives from the Police, CHIS and the Bridge Trustees have also been present. There is no definitive plan for the booths yet and residents will be consulted before any final decision is made.

Mobile Library

A case of use it or lose it! This library parks in Vicarage Road opposite the Church. The next visits are on Tuesdays,10th & 24th May and 7th & 21st June from 1.30 to 2 pm. Please support it.

Avon Wildlife Trust

There are still a few places available for this interesting tour which ends with drinks and nibbles. It provides another opportunity to see the 'whales' from Millennium Square! Please contact Angela Probyn on 0117 973 8884 for further information.

Brackenhill Gardens on April 2nd

A wonderfully warm sunny afternoon when many local residents and members of the Botanic Gardens took advantage of the opportunity to stroll round this beautiful listed garden and sit admiring the lily pond. Keen gardeners spotted the more recent changes and saw how well the garden is being maintained.
